A woman is in hospital after falling from a balcony following an alleged assault in Sydney.

Emergency services were called to a unit complex on John Street, Waterloo, at about 6pm on Sunday in response to reports of an assault.

According to police, a 31-year-old woman allegedly fell from an upper level into the courtyard of a ground-level unit but managed to walk away from the scene.

About an hour later, she was located in nearby George Street with head injuries by a member of the public who contacted emergency services.

The woman was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics and taken to St Vincent’s Hospital in a stable condition.

Shortly afterwards, a 35-year-old woman arrived at the same hospital, claiming she had also fallen from a balcony in Waterloo.

Police are investigating if the incidents are connected.
