- Scattered showers on Thursday will give way to brighter spells over the weekend
Britain could experience its hottest day of the year this weekend, as temperatures are predicted to rise to as high as 30C.
Sunbathers basked in 25C rays today, with dry conditions predicted for most parts of country on Wednesday.
The weather is forecast to become more unsettled from his afternoon, however, with showers initially set to hit parts of Wales, Scotland and western England later today.
Southern England could experience wetter conditions on Thursday, with prolonged expected in parts of Scotland and Northern Ireland as well.
But sunshine is on the way for the most this weekend, with mercury set to reach the high 20Cs in the north, while southern parts could see it go beyond 30C.

High pressure could see parts of the country experience a mini heatwave, starting from Sunday and extending into next week, Exacta Weather forecaster James Madden predicted.
In an update on Facebook, he wrote: ‘By this weekend and particularly for around Sunday on current indications (possibly earlier), we will now see high pressure rising across our shores, and it will bring with it a significant rise in temperatures, which will become the more predominant feature throughout much of next week and into early August for many parts of the country.’
He said this would bring ‘predominantly warm’ conditions and even some ‘extreme temperature spikes’ stretching into high 30Cs.
Weather apps will imminently start showing that things ‘will really start to heat up’ by Sunday’, he added.
According to the Met Office, most of the country will experience temperatures close to the average expected at this time of year on Wednesday.

This will give way to rain in southern areas, with scattered showers in Scotland merging into longer spells of wet weather.
But fine weather would return by Friday and Saturday, with most areas in for a mixture of ‘bright spells and showers’.
Sunday would be ‘widely settled’ with sunshine, the agency said, although some areas could see some haze as cloud comes in from the west.
‘The weather this week sees a somewhat typical mix of UK summertime weather, with some pleasant sunshine at times interrupted by showers or some longer spells of rain’, its deputy chief meteorologist Dan Holley said.
‘A frontal wave close to southern England on Thursday could bring some more persistent rain here for a time, where it may feel rather cool, but Friday and Saturday will see a return to a mixture of bright spells and showers for many with temperatures near or just below average for late July.’
