A teenager has been rushed to hospital with life threatening injuries after he was allegedly stabbed near a shopping centre.
The alleged incident happened near the CS Square Shopping Centre in Caroline Springs in Melbourne‘s west on Thursday.
Police were called to Lake Street near the shopping centre at 5.15pm after reports of a stabbing.
The suspects had left the scene by the time police arrived.
The teenager described as in his late teens suffered stab wounds to his hand and body and was rushed to Royal Melbourne Hospital.
Police described the teenager’s injuries as ‘life threatening’.
‘Investigators are still trying to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and the investigation is ongoing but it is believed the offenders have left the area,’ Victoria Police said in a statement.
‘A male has been transported by road ambulance to Royal Melbourne Hospital with serious upper body injuries,’ an Ambulance Victoria spokeswoman said.

Detectives and uniformed police remained at the scene into the evening.
Last month police swarmed Bayside Shopping Centre on Beach Street in Frankston, south-east Melbourne, after a group of teens were allegedly spotted with ‘an edged weapon’.
A Victorian Police spokesperson said officers had responded to reports of ‘teenagers causing trouble’ at the shopping centre.
‘During the incident, it is believed one boy had an edged weapon,’ the spokesperson said.
‘Officers attended the scene and located an edged weapon in a nearby bin.’
Police claim no one was injured during the incident.
